Sara Couden, Contralto and Jenny Lin, Piano
Release by Steinway & Sons
In 1899 Artur Schnabel was an unknown pianist looking for work. Therese Behr, a rising star at age 23 was looking for a pianist to accompany her on her concert tours all across Germany, Scandinavia and other countries. The musical influence of Therese on Artur was enormous. Artur, who had composed a few pieces for Piano began to compose songs for Therese. She liked the songs and programmed them in her concerts. In 1901 the Drei Lilien Verlag, a music publisher in Berlin published the first collection of songs.
Recently the American Contralto Singer Sara Couden and Steinway Pianist Jenny Lin teamed up to record all the Artur Schnabel compositions for single voice and piano. The CD is available as CD and/or download on Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and Deezer. It contains 23 songs for 1 hour and 17 minutes of music.
